Introducing: ‘Rejuvenate’ recycled curtains

It’s no secret that plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues we face. After all, every single piece of plastic every made still exists. That’s why it’s essential that everyone does their bit when it comes to waste reduction.

In addition to offering eco-friendly blinds and greener materials like linen and jute, we’re excited to introduce 100% recycled curtain fabrics to our range.

What are recycled curtains made from?

The range of Rejuvenate recycled curtains are made from 100% recycled polyester yarn. This yarn itself is made from post-consumer and post-industrial recycled PET products such as plastic bottles and packaging – plastics that would otherwise end up in landfill!

To make the fabric, the plastic is shredded into tiny pieces and then spun into recycled yarn. This yarn is then woven into the strong, soft, stylish curtain fabrics known as Rejuvenate.

Fun fact: Each metre of the Rejuvenate fabric contains 81 x 1L plastic bottles that have been saved from landfill.

Benefits of buying Rejuvenate recycled curtains

  • Better for our planet: Above all else, one of the key reasons to buy these fabrics is because they help to reduce your carbon footprint.

  • Super stylish: When you shop this range of recycled fabrics, you’ll be spoilt for choice! These curtains come in a variety of warm and cool neutrals to suit any interior.

Eco-friendly blinds

If you’re interested in eco-friendly window treatments other than curtains, our aluminium blinds and aluminium shutters are ideal, as aluminium is widely accepted material at Perth recycling facilities.

Our bamboo blinds are also suitable for eco-friendly homes, as the bamboo biodegrades easily once thrown away. You can learn more about recycling your blinds here.

Introducing: Acoustic fabric curtains

While there is technically no such thing as soundproof blinds or soundproof curtains, it’s certainly possible to buy fabrics that absorb sound. And that’s what our new acoustic curtain fabrics are designed to do!

Sound absorption is the measure of the amount of energy removed from the sound wave as the wave passes through a given thickness of material. As such, a sound absorbing fabric will improve the quality of sound within a room.

What is acoustic fabric?

Acoustic fabric is designed to reduce the reverberation or echo in a room, therefore improving the sound quality within the room in the process. With acoustic fabrics installed in your home in the form of blinds or curtains, you can improve the sound quality instantly, without needing to add expensive insulation or other soundproofing panels.

How much sound do these curtains absorb?

To give you an idea of just how effective these noise cancelling curtains are, let’s get into the science behind their sound absorbing nature.

The supplier of these acoustic fabrics, Basford Brands, commissioned an engineering firm to have the fabrics measured for their Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC).* An NRC is essentially an average rating of how much sound an acoustic product – in this case, curtains – can absorb.

NRC ratings range from 0 to 1, with 0 equalling zero sound absorption (e.g., concrete) and a value of 1 equalling complete sound absorption. The higher the rating, the higher the amount of sound is absorbed, leaving less to transmit into the environment.

The fabric construction and materials that make up these fabrics allow for excellent sound absorption. Our acoustic fabrics achieve an NRC of 0.66, meaning they can absorb a significant amount of sound.
*Under the ISO 0534 Part 2.

Where to install acoustic curtains

Both residential and commercial settings can benefit greatly from the installation of acoustic curtains. These curtains are particularly well-suited to busy family homes with kids and pets, homes with high ceilings, rooms that are used for work or study purposes, plus restaurants and bars to muffle ambient noise.

Benefits of our acoustic curtain fabrics

Aside from improving indoor sound quality, here are a few other benefits you can expect.

  • Hand washable: If these curtains end up looking worse for wear, you don’t have to worry! Rather than lugging them all the way to the dry cleaners, you can simply wash the fabric by hand.

  • Strong and stylish: This fabric is made of 100% ultra-durable Polyester with a subtle triple weave linen look. Choose from a range of classic and contemporary colours to suit your home.
